How does Reciprocal Peer Mentoring work?

The ReciproCoach Reciprocal Peer Mentoring program gives you the opportunity to receive three hours of individual mentoring at the credential level that you are applying for (or renewing at) for less than what most mentors charge for a single session.

How is this possible?

We use a reciprocal learning model whereby you agree to give back three hours of individual mentoring once you have achieved your credential and are eligible to work as a mentor coach. In using this receive first and give back later model of reciprocal learning, you only pay for the coordination process – the payment for the actual mentoring happens in kind, when you give back the mentoring to another coach in the ReciproCoach community. Here’s a diagram to summarise the process:

Through this Reciprocal Peer Mentoring process, not only do you get three hours of individual mentor coaching at a fraction of the usual price, but you also get the added value of really sharpening your skills by mentoring another coach. In fact, most Reciprocal Peer Mentoring participants find they learn more from giving mentoring than they do from receiving it.

You can apply to participate in individual reciprocal peer mentoring once you’ve got at least six hours of group mentoring under your belt, at your designed credential level.

Just like Reciprocal Peer Coaching, you only pay ReciproCoach a nominal fee to connect you with a mentor with the credential you’re about to apply for (or renew). Instead of paying per session, you then return the favour to someone else in the ReciproCoach community by giving back mentor coaching after achieving your credential and becoming an eligible mentor coach yourself.

This may sound daunting at first, but once you’ve gone through your ten hours of mentor coaching as a mentee, you know what to do, because you’ve engaged in the process countless times. ReciproCoach also offers a free mentor coach training course, if that’s something you’re interested in.

Mentor coaching is a necessary component of applying for an ICF ACC, PCC or MCC credential. However, we think regular mentor coaching is an essential part of every coach’s ongoing professional development. The co-creative power of the ReciproCoach community makes mentor coaching financially accessible so that you don’t just engage in it when you have to, but make mentor coaching a part of your ongoing professional practice.
