What makes the coaching relationship so unique?
The way in which coaches and clients relate together is an important part of the coaching process. The qualities of the coach-client relationship cultivate an environment which supports client discovery of self-knowledge, allowing them to reveal and discover themselves. Because coaches accept clients, clients are able to be honest with coaches and trust them. This enables clients to reveal and discover themselves.
Importantly, when coaches and clients relate, there exists a level of equality and clients are also expected to discover their own answers. Furthermore, the relationship is grounded in a clear purpose and usually there is an intrinsic attraction between coaches and clients. This combines to enable a constructive interaction. Furthermore, client relationships provided a context from which clients discovered self-knowledge. The figure below illustrates the coaching relationship:
